Mass for the Dead

I ask myself every morning, how can we change this. What can I do besides not eating meat and dairy? There has to be more. Any suggestions?

Daily Show

the Daily Show might be my favorite show on TV,
so I am especially sad they had to use a camel for some lame skit
and to see the camel get hurt.

Its also upsetting to see John Oliver telling the person who recorded this to stop filming at the end:

I hope the Daily Show will learn from this and will not use animals in future skits.

Smokey the Super Purring Cat

Most cats purrs are 25 decibels, Smokey's is 92 decibels which is about the volume you would experience watching a boeing 737 coming in for a landing!

Villalobos Rescue Center in Danger of Closing

Tia Torres is an amazing woman.  She always has the underdog's back.  Not only does she help the most thrown away dog breed, the pit bull, but also the most thrown away people in our society, x-cons.  I love the show Pitbulls and Parolees and I think she shows the power of being a strong, passionate, and independent woman, which is often not shown on TV.  Her dream was to move the rescue out of the desert and she has now moved the rescue to an idyllic setting in Tehachapi, CA but one woman stands in her way of doing this.  This woman ignorantly dislikes pitbulls is trying to force the rescue to shut its doors.  Please sign this petition to show your support for her work and cause.

How many wildlife conservationists have been murdered in Africa?

I've tried to look up many times how many conservationists have been murdered in Africa and have not been able to come up with a list. It's quite a large number. These people should be honored for sacrificing their lives for wildlife. I can think of these off the top of my head. Can you guys think of anymore?

I know there are many more. These are just the famous ones.

KOBE

Dear friends,

Apologies for the mass email. I rescued a dog named Kobe a couple of weeks ago and had to take him to the North Central Animal Shelter. Although he is microchipped, his owners have unfortunately decided to abandon him. He is absolutely sweet and he really needs a home.

He is a medium-sized chihuahua mix (around 13 pounds), he is between 1 and 4 years old, he is neutered, seems to be in good health, and very good natured. I am attaching a couple of pictures.

I really wish I could foster him, but it's just not possible at the moment. If you or anyone you know is interested in adopting or fostering Kobe please let me know ASAP.

Thanks!
Alex

Power to the Peeps

I was so amazed to see a people's revolution right before my own very eyes. How lucky are we to have witnessed such a beautiful thing. It's the  type of thing that would get my heart racing reading in history books but I have never seen it. This has inspired me to feel like, with enough people with passion in their heart, change can be made for the better.  We also got a balloon launch stopped today in Columbus just by having enough people express their concerns (thanks Patrick and Danielle for your help). A small victory I know but it gives me hope for change. This is our year for revolution.

Urgent Dog Rescue

Received this email this morning and was quickly reminded about why I can't go into shelters without leaving in tears most times. I wish I had a farm or huge plot of land so I could rescue everyone. But I don't, so I spread the word where I can and hope for the best for all the animals out there. -Patricia

These six little lovebugs are in extreme danger of being euthanized at the South L.A. shelter.
We begged for a few extra days -- our supervisors kindly said OK, we'll give these pups a last chance. But at least three of them will die if not rescued / adopted by Friday. A few of these babies are comical; a couple are coy. One is shy but so sincere. All are kenneled with other dogs and do fine. If you can help save one life, please contact the South L.A. shelter at (213) 485-0117 or -0119. And kindly let us know that they are yours. Animal Medicine

My friend Jessica does animal card readings in her home for donation or trade. She read my animal medicine cards and it was such an amazing insight into my personality. You guys should make an appointment! http://www.otteronarock.com/

Help! No power and bored

Hey guys- all the animals and I are cuddling by a space heater with no power (we have a generator) and it's the third night. We are a little stir crazy because it's so icy out. If you guys could post things to entertain me and the kitties and pups, we would love it. Thanks!
